Prince Adeyemi warns APC members against indiscipline

House of Representatives member representing Oyo Federal Constituency, Prince Akeem Adeyemi, has identified the need for supporting the position and directives of the party on any issue, against personal interest.

Prince Adeyemi, of the ruling All progressives Congress (APC) was among the representative members whom Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila led to the Presidential Villa on Wednesday night, where they met with President Muhammadu Buhari on the way out of the crisis in the party.

Adeyemi told News Express on Thursday:“I was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and I will continue to abide by its directives. Yesterday, Hon. ’Femi Gbajabiamila led us to the villa where we met with President Muhammadu Buhari. We gave our own account of what transpired during the leadership election in the House of Representatives.

“What must be ensured is, members of the APC in the National Assembly have to abide by party supremacy in any matter as this would lead to development of the party, if practically followed.”

Prince Adeyemi noted that while every member of the national assembly is constitutionally empowered to hold leadership position, the party’s interest supersedes any other individual position, except in few cases.

“We didn’t contest independently but on the platform of the party. So it is incumbent on us to respect party supremacy.”

Commenting on the recent free-for-all in the National Assembly, he said it was unfortunate, adding: “Ambition should not divide us at a time we are supposed to be seen as change agents. We all contested under the platform of the party and, having done so, we have indirectly pledged to abide with all its directives. Without discipline, the party will crash.

“However, it has happened and must not be allowed to fester because we have suffered for long as a nation. Nigerians would be at the receiving end except we reconcile ourselves. But to prevent future occurrence, every stakeholders must be called to an enlarged stakeholders meeting where all the lingering issues would be ironed out.”

Prince Adeyemi urged his colleagues in the party to sheath their swords and move forward in the interest of the nation. “Let us remember the sacrifices we made before the merger became fruitful,” he added.
