After 120 minutes of fireworks, Burkina Faso minutes ago picked the last available semi-final ticket of the 29th Africa Cup of Nations after out-struggling Togo by a lone goal at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
The 90 minutes of regulation time had ended barren, forcing the match into extra time. Togo’s hopes of progressing beyond the last eight evaporated just before the end of the first half of extra time (specifically in the 104th minute) when Jonathan Pitroipa nodded home the only goal of the match off a corner kick.
With this result, the Burkinabes, which incidentally qualified from Group C alongside Nigeria, will face Ghana at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Wednesday, February 6, while Nigeria, who shocked favourites Ivory Coast 2-1 earlier this evening, face Mali same day at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
