At last, African Magic introduces Igbo Channel

Leading African pay television company, DSTv, has finally moved to end complaints of marginalisation by Ndigbo by introducing a channel for their language on the popular African Magic.

One of DSTv’s key offerings, the African Magic entertainment bouquet now boasts eight channels. While there are dedicated channels for Hausa and Yoruba films, there has been none for the Igbo, one of Nigeria’s three major ethnic groups.

“That is about to end,” a top-level source at Multichoice, which holds the DSTv franchise in Nigeria, said this afternoon.

The source, who spoke in Lagos but requested anonymity, was emphatic that “Africa Magic Igbo will be launching soon – in fact, in a matter of weeks.”
