Senatorial candidate of Peoles Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun East, Prince Buruji Kashamu,has been sued at a Federal High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, seeking his disqualification as candidate in the elections.

Two members of the party in Ogun State, Alhaji Dele Ajayi and Mr. Wasiu Saula are the plaintiffs.

Ajayi, who is from Ward 08 in Ijebu-North local government area and Saula from Ward 003 in Sagamu local government area of the state, had approached the court seeking an interlocutory injunction restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the PDP from recognising Kashamu as the senatorial candidate of the party in the district.

The applicants, in a suit titled: FHC/AB/CS/19/2015 before the Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta on motion on notice, asked the court to restrain the defendant from contesting the election as the candidate of the party for the senatorial district or in any future elections in the country organised by INEC pending the hearing and determination of the court.

The motion on notice dated February 23, is supported by a 15-paragraph affidavit deposed to by one of the applicants

The applicants in the motion on notice argued that the defendant should be disqualified by virtue of the provisions of Section 66(1) (c) of the 1999 Constitution, having been allegedly charged and/or convicted of an offence involving drug trafficking and fraud, and having been allegedly convicted of an offence involving dishonesty.

They said based on this, Kashamu is not qualified for nomination as the candidate of the party and not eligible to participate in the election.
