Kaduna Christian Leaders fault Buhari’s endorsement by northern pastors

The Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Council has distanced itself from the endorsement of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) by some northern pastors in Abuja.

The clerics, under the umbrella of Northern Christian Leaders Eagle Eye Forum, had on Thursday said that the decision to support Buhari was because of his integrity, honesty and incorruptible antecedents. They said they have a conviction that he would move Nigeria forward.

However, in a communique signed by Chairman of the group and Catholic Bishop of Kafanchan Diocese, Rt Rev. Joseph Bagobiri, at the end of their meeting in Kaduna on Friday, the Kaduna Christian Leaders faulted the move.

They described Buhari’s endorsement by the Abuja group as self-serving and one which does not in any way represent the position of Christians in Kaduna and the northern part of the country.

They said that the endorsement of Buhari does not have the support of Christians in the North.

The Southern Kaduna Christian leaders also called on all Christians to disregard the group and their endorsement of Buhari.

The Christian leaders, while promising to make their position on who to support known in due course, noted that what was paramount to them at the moment was to offer prayers for peaceful elections.

They also called on Christians to ensure that they obtain their Permanent Voter Cards to enable them cast their votes for candidates of their choice.

The group also called on government at all levels to produce maximum security for all citizens during and after the elections.
