Aviation Minister, Chief Osita Chidoka, has launched a drive to ensure victory for the incumbent president, Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28 presidential ballot, by leading top officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State to the three senatorial zones in the state to explain to the people the importance of re-electing President Jonathan.
The minister kicked off the drive with a meeting with members of the State Presidential Campaign Committee as well as addressing traditional rulers in the three zones. At the meetings, Chidoka stressed on the need for them to ensure peace in their domains before, during and after the election.
He also urged the royal fathers to go to their various domains and educate their subjects on the importance of collecting their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) and obeying the laws of the land during and after the elections.
Speaking in an interview after one of the meetings at Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area, Chidoka said PDP recognised the fatherly role of the traditional rulers in their various communities. He said that for a peaceful poll to take place, the royal fathers need to prevail on their subjects to maintain peace.
The minister further said that with the issue of the authentic candidates of the party for the election settled, stakeholders have started strategising on how to work like one family to ensure that President Jonathan is voted overwhelmingly in Anambra State. “Victory for us means that PDP candidates win in all the elections in Anambra and we must therefore ensure that our supporters and voters come out and vote and the only way they can vote is for our people to collect their PVCs and use them on the day of the election,” he said.
On his part, the state coordinator of the Presidential Campaign Committee, Chief Okey Ezenwa, said that in addition to ensuring that President Jonathan secures majority of the votes in Anambra State, his committee would assist the various candidates for other elective positions in their campaigns. He said: “You are aware that the Court of Appeal has taken decision on who are the candidates of PDP in Anambra State and so, we don’t have any confusion about the candidates in PDP any longer.” According to Ezenwa, Anambra is predominantly a PDP state and the party would work hard to ensure victory at all levels.
