The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) has called on Nigerians to resist any attempt by the Federal Government to invite Chinese medical doctors into country, saying it might escalate the coronavirus pandemic.
Instead of inviting the Chinese doctors, the group said if the country is in dire need for foreign doctors, the Federal Government should look toward India or Cuban doctors through the Nigerian foreign mission in both countries, adding that Chinese doctors are not sincere in the medical profession.
In a statement jointly signed by its President General and General Secretary, Okechukwu lsiguzoro and Okwu Nnabuike respectively, the youth council described the figures and claims of ministers Sadiya Farouk and Lai Mohammed that over N100 million had been disbursed as a ruse.
The group alleged that the palliative money had been diverted into personal pockets, noting that there was systematic looting hence the deliberate avoidance of a credible banking process to reach out to Nigerians with BVN for the palliative care and stimulus packages.
“Distribution and disbursement of the palliative fund put doubts on the minds of Nigerians who question the credibility of the claims of disbursement of N100 million palliative fund to Nigerians by subverting a credible source of banking process; the best way to cover the monumental looting and financial recklessness associated with the physical distribution and disbursement of the fund.
“We call for forensic investigation into the activities of Ministry of Humanitarian and Crisis Management led by Ms Sadiya Farouk.
“There is so much hunger and frustration in the country, caused by the lockdown as the preventative method to stop the spread of COVID-19. Nigerians are gradually getting frustrated daily.
“We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to extend the palliative money to the South, as majority of poor Nigerians reside there. The approval of $150 million from the Sovereignty Wealth Funds by the President should be shared among the three tiers of government to cushion effects of the Coronavirus pandemic,” OYC said in the statement.
