Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has said he decided on a unity deal with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) as a way of showing smartness and save his team from the leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).

Makinde made the remark on Thursday at the APM governorship primary held at the Watershed Event Centre, Old Ife Road, Ibadan, where Abimbola Adekanmbi emerged as the party’s candidate for the 2027 election.

He noted that the presence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the primary underscored the credibility of the platform, adding that the commission might have boycotted the exercise if it were conducted under the PDP amid its internal disputes.

He said the idea of a unity arrangement showed that his faction is abreast the situation and wiser than those involved, using the Yoruba proverbial illustration of the squirrel.

He congratulated the party flagbearers, members and supporters on the success of the governorship primary. (The Nation)
