Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, has accused the country’s First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, of being behind his ordeal during Friday’s Presidential Rally of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Samson Siasia Sports Stadium in Yenagoa.
He made the allegation in a statement he issued yesterday through his Chief Press Secretary Daniel Iworiso-Markson.
The statement blamed the crowd revolt on Mrs. Jonathan and her loyalists, particularly members of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) – the state branch of which is under the control of Mrs. Jonathan’s loyalists – and Women for Change Initiative, an NGO promoted by Dame Patience Jonathan.
“Attempts by members of TAN and Women for Change and Development Initiative to boo and stone the Governor were drowned by the singing and drumming of pro-Dickson supporters, who were at the venue of the rally in their numbers,” Dickson’s Chief Press Secretary said.
The incident, according to analysts, may yet be a signal that the First Lady is standing her ground on the replacing of Dickson despite the public support for the embattled governor by President Jonathan.
