Vice-President Namadi Sambo said on Wednesday the Federal Government would soon inaugurate the Sapele Power Plant to boost electricity supply across the country.
Sambo made this information known at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Rally in Asaba, Delta.
“You all know that Mr President is addressing the issue of power supply and I’m pleased to inform you that the new NIPP power plant in Sapele is now 100 per cent completed and it will be commissioned soon.
“In addition to the East-West road contract, Mr President has approved the contract for a new coastal railway line with fast train that will come from Lagos to Benin to Asaba to Onitsha to Yenagoa and to all the South-South and South-Eastern states. Thank you very much, Mr. President.”
He expressed gratitude to the people of the state for coming out en masse to welcome President Jonathan and urged them to vote massively for PDP candidates during the elections.
The Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Ahmed Mu’azu also thanked the people of the state for their loyalty to the party and for turning up as a group to welcome the presidential campaign team, saying Jonathan had performed creditably and, therefore, deserved to be re-elected on Feb. 14.
Speaking at the rally, the Minister of Finance and Coordinator of the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said the Jonathan-led administration initiated numerous economic empowerment programmes.
She said the programmes would ensure the development of infrastructural facilities nationwide. (NAN)
