Former governor of Bayelsa State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Timipre Sylva, has boasted that the presidential candidate of the party in the February 14 election, General Muhammadu Buhari, will win convincingly in the state.
Sylva, who spoke at a press conference in Abuja, said Bayelsans were tired of President Goodluck Jonathan’s clueless government, adding that they were yearning for change. He said President Jonathan would battle hard to secure 25 per cent of the votes in the state.
The former governor also revealed that what Nigerians wanted at this moment was not the creation of additional universities. He said instead, old ones should be well funded.
He said: “I know Chief Akpoebi has been a good friend of Jonathan. He is in a good position to tell you what he has just done. APC in Bayelsa State is marching on. Our party is swelling. With the defection of some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members into our folds, we are closer to securing our victory.
“We are getting to a situation where Buhari will win overwhelmingly in his own state. Jonathan will have to fight to secure just 25 per cent of the votes. Jonathan has not done anything to warrant a second term. He said he has created many universities. Go to those schools and see what you have there. There is nothing. I do not believe the problem in Nigeria is to create new universities. Instead of him to take care of old universities, he is creating new ones.
“I want to assure you that a lot of PDP leaders in Bayelsa State will be crossing over to the APC before the February 14 presidential election. The APC victory is guaranteed and the time for change has come.”
