The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro has said that President Goodluck Jonathan would concede defeat if he loses in the February 14 elections.
At an interactive session with newsmen in Abuja yesterday, Moro reassured Nigerians and the international community that the federal government is prepared to conduct free, fair, credible and transparent elections in February, describing the nationwide anxiety as “unwarranted.”
The Federal Government has equally warned those drumming for war should their candidates lose in the forthcoming election, to stop unnecessary threats that were not in the interest of the government or Jonathan.
He was reacting to threat by some ex-leaders of Niger Delta militants, including Tompolo and Muhajid Dokubo-Asari, that there would be war if Jonathan is not re-elected to serve his second term.
He said it was reprehensible for people to threaten the country with violence if their candidates lose in the forthcoming election.
He said: “President Goodluck Jonathan has not left anyone in doubt as to his preparedness to conduct a free, fair, credible and transparent election.
“Mr President has said that in the unlikely event that he loses the election in the course of this exercise, he would be statesman enough and democratic enough to concede defeat.
