Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2019 election, Mr. Peter Obi, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and Senator Victor Umeh were among dignitaries who graced the funeral service of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB),Nnamdi Kanu’s parents, Eze Israel Kanu and Ugoeze Sally Kanu, at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Isiama, Afaraukwu, Abia State, today, Friday, February 14, 2020.
The burial ceremonies got off a peaceful start and conclude peacefully.
At about 8 am, many youth thronged the Madona Catholic Hospital Mortuary on Aba Road to receive the corpses of husband and wife.
Their remains are being conveyed in two Chevrolet vehicles with their names boldly written like number plates and placed in front of the vehicles. To complement the hearses are two brown horses
From the mortuary, their corpses were conveyed to the headquarters of Umuahia North Local Government Area on Bende Road with the youths forming a long barricade to check traffic congestion.
Traditional ceremonies at the local government headquarters, with traditional rulers and Council authorities in attendance lasted for about an hour. The ceremonies attracted a large crowd which came to have a glimpse of the remains of the couple whose burial has shaken not only Umuahia and Abia State, but beyond.
From the local government headquarters, the procession would head to Afara Orieogwu, the traditional capital of Afara-Ukwu community for performance of traditional rites of passage for one of their foremost influential monarchs.
Police operatives have been deployed to all approaches of Afara-Ukwu where the Church Service would hold at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Isiama Afara, with the Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Obijuru Ibeabuchi, leading several other officiating Ministers, to among others, ensure security and free traffic.
