Despite the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammad Buhari’s denial, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign organisation insisted Buhari, is not fit for the race.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Sunday the director of media and publicity of the organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, challenged Buhari to take a brisk walk or jog around a stadium before any of his rallies to prove his medical fitness.
Chief Fani-Kayode, who pointed out that no person in his right senses would wish the APC presidential candidate dead, said the health status of Buhari and other contestants should be a major concern to all.
He further noted that the PDP had not made any assertions other than for Buhari “to engender confidence in Nigerians that he is fit.”
He stated rumours about the health status of Buhari had been circulating before the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) declared him healthy.
According to him, “in this day and age, nothing ought to be swept under the carpet. We are, therefore, constrained to urge him to prove to the Nigerian people that he is really fit as a fiddle as the spokesman of his presidential campaign organisation has said, by taking a brisk walk or even jogging around the parameter of the stadium before any of his rallies.
“If he can do that, it will go a long way to allay fears of many. Meanwhile, we wish him journey mercies as he travels out of the country for his medical check-up.”
While noting that the Nigerian people deserve to know the truth before they make their choices about who they will vote for as their president in February, Fani-Kayode said “the days of hiding things like presidential candidates’ health status from the Nigerian public are long over.
“The rumour that he is suffering from prostate cancer is exceptionally worrying and it is incumbent upon each and every one of us to pray for him if this rumour is true. Once again, we wish to emphasise the fact that it is vital that we have a full disclosure about the status of his health.”
