Governor Abiodun
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has nullified the appointment of 75 village chiefs elevated to Coronet Obas by the administration of his predecessor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
The governor’s decision followed the first sitting of the State Executive Council on Thursday which approved the revocation of the appointments.
It was also sequel to the submitted report of the Chieftaincy Review Committee, headed by the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, which faulted the process of the chiefs’ elevation.
Briefing reporters after the meeting held at the Executive Council Chambers, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the state Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe, said the revocation was in consonance with the legal notice number three of 2019.
“The Council approved the revocation of the appointments of 75 minor chiefs as Coronet Obas in Legal Notice Number Three of 2019,” she stated.
It will be recalled that as a result of the petitions and protests generated by their installation, the state House of Assembly had passed a resolution suspending all the monarchs appointed and promoted between February and May 28, 2019.
Meanwhile, the state government has expressed readiness to create new ministries, departments and agencies.
To this end, Longe disclosed that a new Ministry of Transportation, saddled with the responsibility of handling road, rail, air and sea transport systems in the state, has been created. (New Telegraph)
