2015: Panic grips PDP as Obasanjo meets South-West women leaders

Today’s meeting conveyed by the former President Olusegun Obasanjo with all the Iyalodes (women leaders) and concerned women from all the states in the South-West geo-political zone of the country has sent jitters down the spine of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Sources close to the meeting, the agenda of which is still under wraps, said that “it is scheduled for the Obasanjo’s Presidential Hilltop Residence, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, this morning.”

According to the notice of meeting which was sent by Chief Alaba Lawson, and obtained by our reporter, the women delegates “are to assemble at Commerce House, Igbehin Hills, near Ibara Police Station, Abeokuta by 9am to proceed in a convoy to Obasanjo’s house for the 10 o’clock appointment.”

Though the objective of the meeting was not known, sources close to the PDP in the zone said the party was not comfortable with such a parley at this crucial moment when election was very much around the corner.

More worrisome about the meeting, the source who craved anonymity said, is the current unfriendly disposition of the former President to the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan which “as you all know is not encouraging.”

The source maintained that “as much as we are not privy to the meeting’s agenda, we are convinced that it cannot be apolitical and since the body language of Baba as far as PDP is concerned is against our plan to have President Jonathan back in office, we are worried.”

“It is no more a secret that the former president is more disposed to the opposition taking over the power from the current president and our party, though he is still a member of the PDP.

So, we have to monitor his moves, especially as elections draw nearer in order not to be caught unawares,” the source said.
