Dagona broke a decade-long record being the first northerner to take the position.
Organized by the federal government, the Imaging National Chemistry Competition is a contest that gives room for Chemistry students to share knowledge and solve a science-related problem.
“The competition involved 1750 candidates in the first round but 255 of us scaled through. In the next round only 13 of us made it to the final round,” Dagona said.
He said it was on record that since the competition began winners usually emerge from southern parts of the country until this year when he broke the jinx.
“This year I was able to beat my colleague, David Simon, from Imo State who took the second position,” he added.
Dagona attended Umar Suleiman Primary School Gashua, Government Day Secondary School Gashua and Umar Suleiman College Of Education Gashua where he obtained a National Certificate in education in 2018.
He attributed his success to the support and encouragement he got from his parents.
“I was fully sponsored by my parents who have been very supportive and encouraged me towards my studies. Despite being poor my father did all he could to provide me with reading materials,” he said.
Dagona said he was currently teaching in a private school in Kano after his failure to secure employment in his home state.
“When I completed my NCE, I didn’t secure any offer from government that was why I decided to go to Kano and look for a job.
“My prayer is to get employment in my state and contribute my quota to the education of my younger ones. That would also afford me the opportunity to further my studies” (Daily Trust)
