A building which was partially torched during the Ochanja Market, Onitsha, Anambra State inferno in October 2019 collapsed on Boxing Day, December 26, 2019.

News Expresslearnt that some occupants of the building who were inside the building when it collapsed around 3:30 p.m., managed to escape unhurt before the building crashed down.

According to an eye witness who identified himself as Chuka, none of the traders was trapped as they were fast to have escaped before the collapse.

He said: “I don’t think anyone was trapped inside the debris at the time the building collapsed. Most of them were fast enough to escape.”

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed said nobody was trapped in the collapsed building.

“Yes the building partially collapsed but nobody was trapped, no loss of life and no injury sustained by any person.

“The scene of the incident had since been visited by the Police patrol team led by the DPO of the area,” Mohammed said.
