Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Buratai
The Nigerian Army has
announced the extension of its operations in parts of the country, which were
scheduled to end Monday.
The exercises began on
October 7.
Consequently, the Army
said exercises Ayem Akpatuma II covering Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi and Taraba
states, as well as parts of Kaduna and Niger states, Atilogwu Udo 1 in
South East, and Crocodile Smile IV (Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta,
Edo, Lagos, Ogun and Rivers states, will continue until January 7, 2020.
In a statement by its
spokesperson, Col. Sagir Musa, the Army said it extended the aforementioned
exercises, “owing to the tremendous successes recorded in the ongoing
Operations/Exercises across the country especially in the aspect of Exercise
Positive Identification”.
New Telegraph recalls
that, announcement for the commencement of the operations, which were billed to
be conducted “concurrently”, was made on September 25, 2019.
Meanwhile, the Chief of
Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has assured of the service’s resolve
to protect lives and property of all “law-abiding citizens” across the country.
