A section of Awka South
Local Government Secretariat in Anambra State was on Saturday night gutted by
fire.
The fire, which
started at about 9:00pm, affected office the office of a director in the office
of the Head of Service.
The cause of the
inferno or the value of the property burnt is yet to be ascertained. No life
was lost in the incident.
Confirming the
incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed,
said: “At about 9:00pm on 21/12/2019, there was a fire outbreak at the State
Secretariat Complex Awka, affecting the office of a director in the office of
the Head of service.
“Following the
distress call, Police patrol teams led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge
of operations DCP Abdulaziz Obansa rushed to the scene and alerted the fire
service department who responded immediately and put off the fire.”
Mohammed said the state
Commissioner of Police, CP John B. Abang, has ordered for a discreet
investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.
