The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Maiduguri Zonal Office today, Tuesday, December 10, 2019, secured the conviction of one Fannaram Adama on a count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust to the tune of N949,000.

Adama, who was first arraigned on December 5, 2019 before Justice Umar Fadawu, was accused of converting to personal use, the sum of N949,000, which was meant to be the share of the victim, after the house of her late son was sold and the money shared among his heir and hers. The said sum, which was transferred to Adama by one Jafar Abba Ahmed, was diverted and never given to the victim.

In the course of the trial, the prosecution presented nine witnesses and tendered five documents as exhibits.

Delivering judgement, Justice Fadawu found her guilty and sentenced her to three years in prison, with an option of fine in the sum of N500,000.

In a related development, Justice Fadawu sentenced one Abba Usman to two years in prison with an option of fine in the sum of N1 million, after finding him guilty of a N7 million fraud.

His journey to the Correctional Centre started when the EFCC received a petition against him alleging criminal breach of trust and obtaining by false pretence to the tune of N7,365,000.

The said sum was purportedly meant for Usman to secure contracts and jobs for various individuals and companies. The convict also issued two dud cheques in the sum of N6 million.

He was first arraigned on Thursday, November 21, 2019 and pleaded “not guilty” to an amended charge.

Similarly, one Tijjani Hamidu whose trial began on July 25, 2019 before Justice Fadawu, was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

He pleaded “not guilty” to a three-count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence, forgery and using as genuine in a fraud case involving N3,350,000.

In the course of the trial, the prosecution presented several witnesses and documents, which were accepted as exhibits against him.

Delivering judgement, Justice Fadawu sentenced him to seven years on count one for the offence of obtaining by false pretence, seven years on counts two and three for offence bordering on forgery and using as genuine.

The trial judge further ordered him to make restitution to his victim in the sum of N3,210,000 in default of which he should spend an addition four years in prison.
