Plateau Govt. clarifies status of Gov Jang’s son in his cabinet

Plateau State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon Mohammed Abubakar Badu, has faulted media reports that Governor Jonah Jang has appointed his son commissioner.

Badu in a press statement issued in Jos yesterday dismissed the report as “wrong and fallacious in its entirety.” He said what took place at the last state executive council meeting was “additional responsibility for the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Yakubu Jang, as he was assigned to oversee the Ministry of Lands and Survey following the resignation of the commissioner, Yilji Gomwalk.”

“It is as simple and straightforward as that,” the commissioner said, noting that it is surprising that some media houses reported the matter out of context.

According to Abubakar, at the said state executive council meeting which was the first at the new Government House at Little Rayfield, the State Government approved contracts for additional works at the new Government House, completion of Binchima, Zagum, DTV, Rafin Bama, Kpachidu electrification projects, and contract for additional work at the state cassava processing factory which is to include supply of three different machines at the cost of N59.8 million.

According to him, other contracts approved at the state executive council meeting include that for additional work on the office complex of the Board of Internal Revenue along Bank Road, Jos and that for the procurement of ICT facilities for the new Government House at the cost of N78.8million.

Reclamation of two gully erosion sites at Gold and Base at the cost of N23.6m and N390.8m, and construction of road with culverts and drainages to the Dialogue, Reconciliation and Peace Centre, Kwang at the cost of N2.4m to be executed through direct labour were also among the contracts approved.
