The All Progressives Congress (APC) this afternoon confirmed earlier media reports that its presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, would be running with Prof. Yemi Osinbajo for the February 14, 2015 presidential election.
News of Osibajo’s selection after six days of a heated search by Buhari and APC had been making the rounds since morning.
Prof. Osibajo is a Pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God and former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State during the Bola Tinubu administration. He hails from Ikenne in Ogun State and is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
Buhari had been expected to announce his running mate after emerging the APC candidate last Thursday but party leaders failed to agree on the issue.
All political parties have till the end of today to submit the name of candidates vying for various political offices to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This is the fourth time Buhari, a one-time military Head of State, would be running for President. He and Osibajo are the main challengers to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo, who would one more be flying the flag of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
