Chime saga to end in 4 weeks —Save Enugu Group

The political crisis in Enugu State arising from the prolonged absence of ailing Governor Sullivan Chime will be over in less than a month, according to the Save Enugu Group (SEG). “It’s a blitzkrieg that cannot last more than four weeks,” says SEG Convener, Maxi Okwu (Ikenecheoha II).

Seeking to clear up misconceptions about the SEG, which has since last week been raising questions about the whereabouts of Chime and his fate, Okwu said in a plea for more activists to join the SEG in its agitation: “We are not against Sullivan Iheanacho Chime the ‘performing’ Governor nor insensitive to any health challenges he may have. Again we are not on a mission to unseat him. All we are saying is ANYI NA ACHO OUR ABLE GOVERNOR CHIME. (meaning: We are looking for our Able Governor Chime). Please join the movement.”

Meanwhile, Okwu, who is a lawyer and politician, this morning insisted that Chime is still taking treatment from the Wellington Humane Hospital Swiss Cottage, London. Responding to a claim by an online newspaper (not News Express) that the governor has since left the hospital for an unknown location, the Ikenecheoha II told News Express:

“The hospital in question takes patients and give specialist medical attention. After surgery the patient as in Governor Chime's case, is moved to a specialist convalescing home equipped to give delicate and specialist post surgical care. There is enormous pressure on the bed spaces available at the Wellington hospital. The Governor was a surgical patient and the attention is ongoing, according to our information.”

Chime (shown in photo) was last seen in public four months ago, with officials of Enugu State government claiming that he is on vacation and would soon return. The issue has moved to the front burner of national discourse since January 8 when the SEG wrote to Acting Governor Sunday Onyebuchi demanding clear answers on the fate of Chime.
