The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has urged candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions to check the approved subject combinations for their preferred courses before making their admission choices.
The board warned that a good score in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and strong O’Level results may not guarantee admission if a candidate fails to meet the required subject combination.
JAMB gave the advice in a post shared on its JAMB Explained platform on X on Friday, noting that different institutions have specific admission requirements for their academic programmes.
“Do you know that your subject combination might be the reason you don’t get admitted? You can have good scores in the UTME and O-Level results and still not be eligible for admission,” the board stated.
To help candidates avoid such mistakes, JAMB directed them to its Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS) portal at www.ibass.jamb.gov.ng to confirm the requirements for their preferred courses and institutions.
The board also explained how candidates can find the information on the portal.
Candidates are expected to visit the IBASS website and click on the brochure section. From there, they should select the option to view all institutions and use the filter to find their preferred university, polytechnic or college of education.
After selecting an institution, candidates should choose their desired course and click on the “View Details” option to access the admission requirements.
The details show the approved O’Level subjects and required grades, alongside the UTME subject combination for the selected course.
JAMB advised candidates to check the information carefully and ensure that their O’Level results and UTME subjects meet the requirements before proceeding with their admission choices.
The board stressed that meeting the required subject combination is essential for admission eligibility, irrespective of how well a candidate performs in the UTME and O’Level examinations. (The Sun)
