Gov. Peter Obi of Anambra State has told people of the state to expect “a revolution in road construction this year” as never witnessed in the past.

He said thisyesterday while answering questions from journalist at the Government House,Awka, after the EXCO meeting. The meeting could not hold on Monday as the governor was away to Abuja, the Nigerian capital, for a meeting of selected governors with President Goodluck Jonathan and another meeting between selected governors and a World Bank Team.

Obi expressed satisfaction with the on-going work at the two sides of the Upper Iweka to Bridge Head, Onitsha, assuring those chased away for trading along the axis that the action was not to witch hunt anybody, but to make the entrance into Anambra as clean and beautiful as those of other states.

He also expressed satisfaction with the three bridges under construction at Atani-Ozubulu road, saying that he would inspect them before the end of the month.

On his planned relocation to Onitsha, Obi said that any leader who had the type of plan he wanted to carry out in Onitsha would have no option than to relocate.

His words: “In our clime, delegation of duties does not work efficiently. We are already doing so much at Onitsha such as the Second Business Park, the Onitsha Hotel and Convention Centre, the roads, the cleaning up as well as the Shopping Mall that will be started in less than a month’s time. For me, I need to stay close and personally make sure all the projects move on as planned. This is while I must relocate to Onitsha.”

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Information, Barr. Joe-Martin Uzodike, said the EXCO meeting could be called “Project EXCO” as it was specifically called to discuss various projects for execution.

He said that though the EXCO raised questions on some of the proposed projects that were stepped down for further details, it approved some roads, among them the following: Okpuno-Umuenyem St-Otolo Nnewi-Nnewi-Awka Etiti road; Amawbia By-pass; Oye Abagana-Ukpo-Abba Junction to Enugu-Onitsha Dual Carriage Way; Police Post-Afor Adazi Nnukwu; Adazi-Nnobi Junction; Oye Nneni-Akwaeze; Egbu-Orizu-Egbu Umunemem-Otolo Nnewi and Esther Obiakor at Awka.

The commissioner disclosed that the government already had the money to complete the projects and called for the continued support of the people of the state.
