The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has described as “inaccurate and misleading” a statement by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) attributing the reduction in its power allocation to the alleged tripping of transmission lines supplying Abuja from the Shiroro Transmission Substation.

TCN, in a statement issued by its management on Wednesday, said the reduction in AEDC’s power allocation was caused by low generation on the national grid and not by any tripping of its transmission lines.

AEDC had earlier released a statement claiming that transmission constraints had affected electricity supply to Abuja and parts of its franchise area.

The distribution company said the tripping of transmission lines supplying Abuja from the Shiroro Transmission Station since Tuesday, August 25, 2026, had reduced its available power allocation from approximately 641 megawatts (MW) to 314MW.

AEDC said the reduction in its allocation had substantially affected its ability to supply electricity to customers, resulting in load shedding across several feeders, including Band A feeders.

The company also acknowledged that low generation levels reported by the National Control Centre (NCC) had further compounded the supply challenge

It apologised to customers for the inconvenience and said it was engaging relevant stakeholders while working to optimise available electricity supply as the situation improved.

However, TCN said the claim was inaccurate, stressing that all 330kV transmission lines within the Abuja Region were currently in circuit.

“TCN wishes to state that this claim is inaccurate and misleading, as the reduction was a result of low generation on the grid and not in any way a TCN line tripping,” the company said.

“Contrary to the information contained in AEDC’s publication, all 330kV transmission lines within Abuja Region are currently in circuit, and no such tripping of the 330kV transmission lines supplying Abuja axis, as alleged by AEDC, has occurred.”

TCN said the reduction in AEDC’s allocation and the resulting load shedding across its feeders could therefore not be attributed to any alleged tripping of its 330kV transmission lines within the Abuja Region.

It reiterated the need for accurate and clear information dissemination, adding that it remained committed to transmitting available bulk electricity across the country and maintaining the stability, reliability and integrity of the national transmission grid. (Nigerian Tribune)
