Popular Nigerian blogger, Kaanayo Nwachukwu, has cried out over an alleged death threat from an unnamed Nigerian security agent.
In a message posted on his Facebook page this afternoon, the Canada-based writer quoted the security agent as saying:
“You are an enemy of the state. We read everything you write. You are passionate about what you do and the changes you want in Nigeria. Read my lips, Nigeria cannot change for you. Never. You have to change your thinking and views or...You can be run over by a vehicle and it would be called an accident. You can be abducted and one thing would lead to another and you would never be seen again...I dare you to announce your arrival in Nigeria publicly and see what you gonna get.”
It is not clear if the security agent is acting on his own behalf or spoke on behalf of his organisation.
The Abia State-born blogger who is presently in the country has however vowed not to be intimidated. “I won’t stop speaking the truth,” he said, adding in Pidgin English: “If una no hear from me from time to time, una sabby whom to ask to produce me...FEAR IS PRISON...I wanna be free. So I go dey talk dey go ni!”
News Express reports that Nwachukwu’s alarm came on the heels of a revelation by US-based writer and university teacher, Prof. Okey Ndibe, that he was detained for 10 hours at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on his return to the country last Saturday, for allegedly being regarded as an enemy of Nigeria on account of his critical columns in a Nigerian newspaper as well as online.
