4 days to 2013 South Africa Cup of Nations: Super Eagles jet out to South Africa, vow to conquer

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are set to jet out to South Africa for the 29th Africa Cup of Nations after successfully concluding preparations, which started in Nigeria and ended in Faro, Portugal.

“Super Eagles off to SA 2013 from its camp site in Faro, Portugal today. New team, strong character needing the total backing of all Nigerians,” said team Media Officer, Ben Alaiya, this morning via Facebook.
He said that the Eagles are set to fly high during the championship but appealed for the support of Nigerians to make that possible.

His words: “It’s time again for the Eagles to joyfully flap its wings in victory. Let’s line up behind Africa’s most consistent national team of all times.”

News Express reports that the Nigerian senior national team started camping in Abuja on December 16 and moved to Faro for the second phase on December 27.

During camping, the Eagles played four friendly matches, winning two and drawing two. They drew one-all on January 2 in Spain with a selected Catalonia side that featured several Barcelona stars and drew goalless against Nations Cup-bound Cape Verde in Faro a week later.

The team beat Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam by a lone goal also in Faro on January 12 and wrapped it up with a 5-0 drubbing of Portuguese second division side Farense yesterday in Faro.

The Eagles are favoured to advance from Group C where they face defending champions Zambia, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia, and to do well in the tournament.
