2015: Obiano moves to impose candidates on Anambra APGA

Apparently shocked by the failure of some of his loyalists at the recently conducted ward election in Anambra State chapter of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Governor Willie Obiano is allegedly compiling a new list with a view to imposing his loyalists on the electorate.

The non release of the list of delegates, it was gathered, has provoked tension in the state with some of the aspirants to the Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly threatening a showdown with the governor.

Though serving Commissioners in the state were used as returning officers during the exercise, the result in most of the 326 wards beat the governor’s expectation.

Obiano allegedly summoned the state chairman of the party, Chief Mike Kwento, to give a detailed account of the congress.

It was further gathered that in Ogbaru Federal Constituency, the governor supported the incumbent speaker of the House of Assembly, Princess Chinwe Nwaebili.

The case is no different in Anambra South Senatorial District where the governor insisted in returning the former vice chairman of the Nigeria Communications Commission N(CC), Chief Ernest Ndukwe.

Also, in Anambra North, he is believed to be favouring Chief Patrick Obianwu.

Similarly, Mrs. Edith Ejezie is also said to be on the list of the governor’s favourites for the House of Representatives for Anambra East and Anambra West.

However, Kwento has denied the allegation, saying there was no plan to alter the delegates list that emerged from the ward congress.

According to Kwento, “APGA ward congress was transparent. There was no basis for anybody to complain at this stage”.

The alleged manipulation, it was learnt, is being done without the knowledge of the national chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh, who has been in Abuja.
