The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cleared the air the adoption, yesterday, of Hon. Dakuku Peterside as the party’s consensus governorship candidate for next year’s elections.

Peterside represents Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and is Chairman, House Committee on Petroleum (Downstream).

Rivers APC Publicity Secretary, Senibo Chris Finebone, said in a statement issued this morning in Port Harcourt, the state capital: “Indeed, the Rivers State APC Caucus, after a long period of diligent scrutiny and in their wisdom, yesterday endorsed Amaopusenbo (Dr.) Dakuku Adolphus Peterside MHR for the forthcoming governorship primaries of the party in Rivers State.

“It is important to re-emphasise that the primaries of the APC in Rivers State will hold as planned and all processes will be duly and diligently adhered to.

“The APC will continue to uphold and abide by the hallowed principle of internal party democracy and will not depart from it.”

Finebone said the clarification had become necessary so as to “properly situate what has happened to prevent avoidable misreporting by the media and not to play into the hands of detractors and mischief-makers.”
