The Traditional Ruler of Umueri Community, Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Ben Emeka, has called on the State Government to expedite action in the completion of the cargo airport project following the release of the aerial survey equipment.

The drone-propelled survey equipment was earlier impounded by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, and released upon provision of appropriate clearance for the Chinese Consortium handling the project.

The monarch made the call during the new yam festival of his community.

He hailed the State Governor, Willie Obiano, for working round the clock to ensure that the aerial survey equipment.

The traditional ruler explained that the equipment was the reason for the delayed work on the airport project.

He expressed confidence that the governor would fulfill his promise so that work could commence.

Igwe Emeka further harped on the economic benefits of the project, saying that the tempo of commercial activities in neighbouring communities would increase in view of potential investments by the private sector in the area.

Speaking on the issue of youth involvement in his cabinet, the monarch said that the age-long style of having elders in a traditional ruler’s cabinet was shelved to enable them learn from elders, control other youths and tell them the dangers of consuming hard drugs.

According to him, the community was building a skills acquisition centre through the N20 Million ‘Choose Your Project Initiative’ to engage the youths in skills acquisition.

While thanking affluent individuals of the community for heeding to his appeal to register hundred people from the community into the Anambra Health Insurance Agency scheme, Emeka enjoined youths of the community to stay away from hard drugs and other social vices like robbery, raping and kidnapping.
