Governor Obiano
The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, today, Thursday, September 26, 2019, presented a budget of N137.1bn to the State House of Assembly for approval for the 2020 fiscal year.
He said the budget, tagged “Accelerating infrastructural development and youth entrepreneurship”, would take into consideration, the state’s revenue and expenditure trend.
Presenting the budget at the state House of Assembly Complex, Awka, Obiano explained that N57.69bn would be recurrent expenditure while N78.3bn would be for capital expenditure.
The breakdown represents 43 and 57 percent respectively.
“We hope that the budget allocation will facilitate the intended improvement in infrastructure in Anambra State.
“This budget plans to sustain our past performance and ensure that Anambra State continues to maintain its status as a hub for business and a destination for new investments,” Obiano said.
Road construction and rehabilitation, according to the budget, would gulp N22.2bn, out of which N15.15bn would be spent on the construction of new roads as well as the rehabilitation of existing ones.
The second highest allocation in the budget totalling N8.3bn is for education, followed by the Anambra International Airport, which has N6bn.
In his speech, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Uche Okafor, hailed the governor for the early presentation of the budget, assuring that the House would accord it speedy review to ensure quick passage.
