Tension is building up in Amansea, Awka north LGA of Anambra state as flood is threatening to sack Ezigbo Primary School located in Okukwa village.
Blueprint reports that the entire school premises were flooded on Thursday preventing 650 pupils and their teachers who just resumed from accessing them.
It was gathered that fear could not allow teachers and their pupils to gain entry into the classrooms despite heaps of gravels erected by the school management few days ago.
The Headmistress, Ezigbo Primary School, Mrs. Leticia Umeadi, while lamenting that the school has lost its valuable documents to the natural disaster, appealed to the Anambra state ministry of environment and other related agencies to quickly come to their aid.
The Headmistress, Ezigbo Primary School, Mrs. Leticia Umeadi, while lamenting that the school has lost its valuable documents to the natural disaster, appealed to the Anambra state ministry of environment and other related agencies to quickly come to their aid.
Umeadi also implored elders of the community to seek spiritual solution to the problem, because according to her, such had never been experienced in the school for the past 12 years.
A resident of the community residing behind the school, Mr Martin Obi, however, said the flood could have been caused by Aba-Owelle stream which is closer to the school.
The school pupils also enjoined the member representing Awka North/South Federal Constituency, Hon. Chinedu Onwuaso and his counterpart in the state House of Assembly representing Awka North Constituency, Hon. John Nwokoye, to take the gospel to the federal and state governments.
On his part, the Secretary general, Ameasea Development Union, Comrade Okoye Maduka, also implored the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, to come to the rescue of the school. (Daily Trust)
