AUTHENTIC LIST finally out: 6 home-based stars make Eagles 23-man squad . . . 10 days to 2013 South Africa Cup of Nations

Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, has made good his promise to carry along home-based players by naming six of them in his final 23-man team for the 29th Africa Cup of Nations.

The list released by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) after last night’s friendly match against Cape Verde in Portugal included six players from the Nigeria Premier League. This is against what had become the tradition, before Keshi’s appointment last year, of using the local players as training materials and usually taking only one among them to the Nations Cup.

Home-based stars who made the list are Chigozie Agbim (Enugu Rangers), Azubuike Egwuekwe (Warri Wolves), Godfrey Oboabona (Sunshine Stars), Gabriel Reuben (Kano Pillars), Sunday Mba (Enugu Rangers) and Ejike Uzoenyi (Enugu Rangers).

The Eagles will depart for South Africa for the tournament next Wednesday, January 16.

The Super Eagles 23-man squad:
Goalkeepers:
Vincent Enyeama (Maccabi Tel Aviv, Israel); Austin Ejide (Hapoel Be’er Sheba, Israel); Chigozie Agbim (Enugu Rangers, Nigeria)

Midfielders: John Mikel Obi (Chelsea FC, England); Nosa Igiebor (Real Betis, Spain); Ogenyi Onazi (SS Lazio, Italy); Obiora Nwankwo (Calcio Padova, Italy); Fegor Ogude (Valerenga FC, Norway); Gabriel Reuben (Kano Pillars, Nigeria)
