Governor Matawalle
Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara State has approved the reinstatement of 556 teachers who were recruited by the immediate past administration but refused to be enlisted and paid their salaries or other entitlements.
The approval, according to a statement issued on Friday by the Director-General of Press Affairs in Government House, Yusuf Idris Gusau, followed a directive to the Head of Service for their immediate reinstatement and payment of their salaries with effect from this September.
Matawalle also commended them for their patience and urged them to be of good conduct in the state civil service. He noted that the reinstatement is part of his administration’s policy of listening to and addressing reasonable and genuine complaints that affect the wellbeing of the state citizens.
The 556 teachers complained to the governor on Monday when he featured on a Zamfara Radio Programme of “Zuwa da kai” where he immediately directed the state head of Service, Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe, to verify the genuineness of their complaints and report back to him.
After the Head of Service finding which showed that the complaint was genuine, the governor approved their reinstatement with immediate effect.
Just last month the governor approved the reinstatement of 1,040 out of the 1,400 recruited workers by the AbdulazizYari’s administration but were also denied their entitlements which resulted into litigation at the Kano Industrial Court which also ruled in favour of the complainants.
