Lovers of soul music, there’s something new to ease the mind. Nigeria’s Tavian (real name Tavian Oladapo) has just released a cool music video for his latest hit song ‘Alone’.

And hardly had the video dropped than it has caught the eye of music buffs. A few days ago the song won the popular UK-based music social site, Beat100’s Artistes and Repertoire (A&R) Award for best written song.

A&R is the division of a record label or music publishing company that is responsible for talent scouting and overseeing the artistic development of recording artistes and/or songwriters. It also acts as a liaison between artistes and the record label or publishing company; every activity involving artistes to the point of album release is generally considered under the purview of, and responsibility of, A&R.

For mature minds, soul music usually usually offers a catharsis out of the haze of a stressful time and Tavian’s ‘Alone’ does just that.

He maintains his trademark sultry voice in this well-written ballad that rues the loneliness of lost love.

Tavian made the recently completed video available to News Express and has also just uploaded the song on YouTube.

What arrives for the viewing pleasure of viewers is a well put together avant-garde video that opens with the talented artiste on a Halloween-like mask, perhaps as symbolising the darker and scary side of a love relationship.

The video segues back and forth into the real face of the artiste and his Halloween looks as he rhetorically asks in the hook “how could you leave me lonely?”

Like other good soul songs, Tavian’s ‘Alone’ relies heavily on the voice quality of the artiste, while the video succeeds in being top quality without sacrificing what the singer was expressing.

Tavian Oladapo was born in the UK but moved to Nigeria at the age of six but returned to England after his education.
