Upper Iweka, Onitsha
Police operatives in Anambra State on Wednesday at Upper Iweka, Onitsha, nabbed an armed robbery suspect in a commercial bus enroute to Onitsha.
The suspect, 35-year-old Sunday Onyema, was arrested by men of Operation Puff Adder in conjunction with patrol team attached to Operation Kpochapu while on stop and search duty in the area.
A statement made available to journalists by the state police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Haruna Mohammed, said that the bus with REG No. UKP108ZU in which the suspect was apprehended was heading into the commercial city from Asaba when it was intercepted.
The statement reads in part: “After a thorough search, the team recovered a Police Beretta pistol with breech number AO-4909Z loaded with seven rounds of life ammunition, one expanded ammunition and six different handsets in possession of one Sunday Onyema aged 35 years of Orlu in Imo State.”
Mohammed said the suspect is assisting the police with useful information to aid investigation after which he would be charged to court for prosecution.
