Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has ended months of speculation about his political future.
A few minutes ago, he announced, on the floor of the House, his defection from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the mega opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sources said Tambuwal’s defection is not as a result of any ideological reasons but informed by his desire to run for the governorshipof his home state, Sokoto, which is scheduled to become vacant when the incumbent governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, completes his tenure. Sokoto is an APC state and Tambuwal’s chances of becoming governor are belived to be brighter if he joins the party.
With his defection, Tambuwal is expected to come under p[rssure from PDP, which dominates both chambers of parliament, to resign as Speaker of the House.
