HRM Igwe Sir Ben Izuchukwu Emeka
The traditional ruler of Umueri community in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, HRM Igwe Sir Ben Izuchukwu Emeka, has described the allegations of having an armoury in his domain as falsehood
He explained that it is a gimmick aimed at tarnishing the reputation of his peace-loving community as well as dragging his name to the mud.
The traditional ruler insisted that there is no war in Umueri, adding that the President-General and traditional ruler are working harmoniously well to ensure a tranquil atmosphere of love and unity for all and sundry to thrive .
The statement is coming on the heels of a report circulating on social media that the community has an armoury where it allegedly stored guns and ammunitions for reasons the author(s) of the said report could not justify.
The statement said in part: “The attention of the traditional ruler and people of Umueri kingdom in Anambra-East Local Government Area of Anambra State have been drawn to a malicious report circulating on social media that the community has an armoury where it allegedly stored guns and ammunitions for reasons the author(s) of the said report could not justify.
“Furthermore the said report equally alleged that some youths had lost their lives over what they interpreted as the face-off between the traditional ruler of the community His Royal Majesty Igwe Sir Ben Izuchukwu Emeka (Okebo II of Umueri) and the President-General of Umueri Town Union Chief Pius Ejimofor Okonkwo where both prominent individuals had disagreed over the ownership and control of the purported armoury.
“Nobody died in Umueri community contrary to malicious social media reports. What happened was a minor internal town union leadership squabble where an impeachment attempt was made on the PG but said that he has the situation under firm control and that government was aware of the development and would resolve the matter in a short while.
“By this press release I state categorically that the perpetrators of social media propaganda against my throne and Umueri community are being tracked and would be sued for libel if apprehended by security agencies.”
The monarch urged members of the public and indeed all well-meaning individuals to adopt more viable means of fishing out persons who use fake names on the social media to malign people.
