The postal workers’ union, NUPTE, has suspended its ‘intended warning strike action”. This was announced in a statement on Tuesday by the National President of NUPTE, Comrade Buba Nehemiah G.
According to Comrade Buba, the intended warning strike was suspended after exhaustive deliberation by the union and the Governing Board of NIPOST.
He said in a statement: “Fellow Comrades, you may recall the ultimatum issued to the management of NIPOST by the two in door unions over the failure to pay backlog of welfare allowance to staff.
“After an exhaustive deliberation by the Unions and the NIPOST Management on the 15th and 16th July, 2019 and the intervention of the NIPOST Governing Board, the intended warning strike is hereby suspended.
“We therefore enjoin all our members to continue to carry out their official responsibilities while we appreciate your patience, understanding and sacrifices.
“A soft copy of the communique as agreed by both unions and the Management will be uploaded as soon as it is signed by all parties.
“The hard copy will also be circulated in due course.”
News Expressreports that the Chairman of NIPOST Governing Board, Barr Maimuna Yaya Abubakar, summoned a meeting of the union with the Postmaster-General with a view to resolving the labour crisis.
