Crack police squad
The Police patrol team in Anambra State attached to B Division on a stop-and-search operation on Saturday, July 6, 2019, along Ifite road Awka, accosted certain Wisdom Elendu for alleged house and shop breaking.
The 26-year-old suspect who hails from Asa in Ukwa West LGA of Abia State, but resides at Awkuzu in Oyi Local Government Area is said to have been recently released from the prison over a similar case.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, said that upon searching the suspect, items which include assorted satchets of hot drinks, Chamdor bottled wine, foodstuffs and cigarettes, among others, were found on him.
Upon further interrogation, the suspect confessed to have stolen the items from a shop at First Market Ifite Awka at about 4am.
Also recovered from the suspect were house/shop breaking implements such as hammer, knives and a sawing device concealed underneath his wears.
The statement reads in part: “The scene was visited by police detectives and incident confirmed by the shop owner, one Chinwe Madukegbu, who put the value of the stolen items at N75,000.”
Meanwhile, Police patrol team attached to Awada Divisionon the 05/07/2019 at about 2:pmarrested one 26-year-old Chika Udeze of no fixed address.
According to Mohammed, the suspect broke into the residence of one Ifeanyi Igwe of No 22B Isunje Aba Street, Awada and stole various items of clothing apparels.
While saying that the suspect has confessed to the crime and other cases of house breaking, burglary and stealing within the area, the PPRO added that all items stolen by the suspect from the residence of his victim have been recovered.
He said: “Furthermore, On the 6/7/2019 at about 5:am, along Ifite Road Awka, Police patrol team attached to ‘B’ Division intercepted a white Toyota truck with registration number Lagos, XT 676 SMK conveying iron rods, with two occupants namely – one Adama Michael ‘m’ driver of the vehicle and one Michael Okonkwo ‘m’ a local vigilante at Ifite.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that suspects allegedly stole the items valued at N200,000 belongingto one Ifeanyi Jideobi ‘m’ from his building site at Ntuku Ngbagu area of Ifite Awka.”
Mohammed said that all cases are under investigation after which suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.
