Puff Adder Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command on Friday arrested a one-chance robbery syndicate operating in a shuttle bus with registration number FGG 38 ZX.
The syndicate is alleged to specialise in robbing innocent students of their phones, snatching of cars and other valuables. Already some of the victims have been contacted through their phones and are trooping to the station to reveal circumstances surrounding their predicaments.
Other suspects arrested during a police stop and search exercise in Okpuno area of Awka include the driver of the shuttle bus, Nonso Okakpu, aged 39-year-old, an indigene of Akwa village, Ifite Dunu, Vincent Nweke, 25-year-old from Umuawulu Nibo, 20-year-old Onyebuchi Odogwu from Nkerefi in Nkanu East of Enugu State and 20-year-old Emmanuel Paul Udeh of Achi in Oji River
It was learnt that the suspects are all residents of Okpuno in Awka South Local Government Area of the state.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, reeled out exhibits recovered from the suspects and the vehicle to include one locally made double barrel pistol; another fabricated doublebarrel pistol; one locally made revolver pistol, four live .9mm ammunition, one expended .9mm ammunition.
Others were five live cartridges, five Infinitix hot-5 phones, one Tecno phone, one Nokia phone, one XQ Mobile phone, one Q-UP Mobile phone, one TKK phone, assorted charms and cash sum of N11,740 only.
Mohammed said that the case is under investigation after which the suspects would be charged to Court for prosecution.
Similarly, Puff Adder operatives in collaboration with the Command Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) trailed and arrested one Emeka Onuku, a 20-year-old, along Nteje/Otuocha road, in Oyi council area.
The Police Spokesman said that the suspect and his accomplices now at large robbed at gunpoint a Toyota Corolla car from one Obiorah Ifeanyi of No 104 Authur Eze Street Awka at about 6am on June 27, 2019.
“Exhibits recovered in his possession include the robbed Toyota Corolla Car. Case under investigation and effort is ongoing to apprehend other fleeing accomplices in order to bring them to justice,” he said.
