Actor Uzor Arukwe
Actor Uzor Arukwe has opened up on why he cannot speak Yoruba despite growing up in Lagos State.
Speaking during an appearance on CreativiTea with Linda, the actor said his childhood environment in Festac Town was dominated by Igbo families, which limited his interaction with Yoruba speakers.
According to Arukwe, who hails from Imo State, he understands Yoruba to some extent but cannot speak it fluently.
“I grew up in Festac. That’s where all the Igbo people are. That’s why I can’t speak Yoruba. I understand to some extent. But yes, I grew up in Festac, and all my neighbours have always been Igbos,” he said.
Arukwe, known for his roles in films like A Tribe Called Judah and Omo Ghetto: The Saga, is one of Nollywood’s most prominent actors, often portraying Igbo businessmen and elite characters.
He has previously addressed concerns about typecasting, noting that he is working to diversify his roles. (The Nation)
