The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is fast closing in on immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, the Okwute (Rock) Ndigbo.
As part of efforts to lure Obi from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), a powerful PDP delegation will this afternoon storm his 22A Niger Drive, GRA, Onitsha, residence with a view to persuading him to defect to PDP, the country’s ruling party.
The delegation is scheduled to be led by the South East Zonal Chairman of PDP, retired Col. Austin Akobundu, who in a message invited the elders and leaders of “our great party to a meeting at the Onitsha residence of our brother, Gov. Peter Obi at his Onitsha residence… on Tuesday, 7th October at 2 pm”.
Obi, who financed and ensured APGA’s survival throughout his years as Anambra Governor from 2006 to March 17, 2014, has lately faced frustrations from the APGA national leadership under Chief Victor Umeh, which refused to hold a National Convention to ratify his appointment as party leader and Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT). He consequently announced his resignation from the said positions.
A source close to the former governor confirmed today’s meeting with PDP chiefs, however telling News Express: “Obi is not joining PDP today but I cannot say what will happen tomorrow.”
