Court stops Kano APC primaries, restrains party leaders

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has restrained the leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano from conducting primary election billed to hold this month, pending the determination of a motion on notice.

Ruling on the ex-parte motion filed by the counsel to the plaintiff, Mr. U. U. Eteng, on behalf of one Muhiyi Magaji Rimin Gado, the presiding judge, Justice Fatin Riman, said the leadership of the APC had also been restrained from parading itself as leaders of the party pending the determination of the motion on notice

Gado was challenging the process the present APC executive council members were elected, alleging that the process had contravened the provision of the Electoral Act and the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as well as APC’s constitution.

He prayed the court to declare the executive council of the party as null and void.

The case has been adjourned to October 17, for hearing on notice.
