A huge rally being organised by youths of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is billed to take place in Ikpobha Okha, one of the three metropolitan local government areas of Edo State.
The main aim of the rally’s organisers is to sensitise youths in the local government area not to trade on their voters cards as next year’s general elections beckon.
The rally is scheduled to hold on Saturday, October 4.
Initially billed to hold last Saturday, the rally was postponed due to the visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to Edo State on that day. The APC youths were keen not to let the President’s visit overshadow their own event.
Speaking with News Express after a town hall meeting was held by the party’s youths in Ikpobha Okha, Igbinosa Edokpolor, an assistant Public Relations Officer of the youth executive in Ikpobha Okha local government, said the rally would kick off from the early hours of Saturday morning and would be conducted around strategic parts of the local government area, while a party would be held to conclude the march later in the day.
“We are very serious about good governance and our party APC wants to ensure that people's consciences are not bought as we seek to win over the state once again. Youths are very important part of the electorate and we are going to use this rally to remind them that their voter’s card is their power and they should not allow filthy politicians to sway them to give up this power by offering them peanuts,” Edokpolor said.
News Express gathered that some top politicians of the APC have offered financial, material and moral support to the organisers of the rally.
With an open party lined up, Edokpolor says all youths of the local government, irrespective of party affiliations are invited to attend.
