Nigeria’s Ministry of Works under the watch of Mr. Mike Onolomemen is a den of corruption, according to a lawmaker-turned activist.
In a tweet this afternoon, Otunba Dino Melaye, Executive Secretary of the Abuja-based Anti-Corruption Network, said: “Ministry of works next place to hit. Mega corruption inhabit there.”
Melaye, who is a former member of Nigeria’s lower parliament, the House of Representatives, had “hit” the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, in November, accusing him of monumental corruption.
In a complaint to the chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) dated November 19, 2012 and signed by Melaye himself, the Anti-Corruption Network had accused Orubebe of accepting as gratification a palatial mansion on the property allocated to him in Abuja, FCT, contrary to Section 12 of the Act. It later claimed to have uncovered more properties in the Nigerian capital corruptly acquired by Orubebe.
But in his reaction, Orubebe described the allegations informed by ignorance and unfounded. It is not clear if the ICPC is investigating the allegations.
