IPOB Spokesman, Comrade Emma Powerful
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reiterated its resolve to shut down activities in the entire Southeast and some parts of Nigeria on May 31 2019 in celebration of Biafra fallen heroes.
The group urged all Biafrans, no matter their place of residence in the world, to adhere to the clarion call by observing the historic event in a solemn and befitting manner.
A statement by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, said that no public gathering, human or vehicular movement, ceremony or lectures of any kind would be allowed on that day.
IPOB regretted that some faceless hired groups without any presence on the ground are still struggling to politicise this only historic event introduced and organised for Biafrans to remember and honour its fallen heroes and heroines who paid the ultimate price
The statement reads in part: “As Biafrans both home and in the diasporas, including friends and lovers of freedom, prepare for the annual May 30 Remembrance this year in our unique and special way, we the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its leadership worldwide are urging all Biafrans, no matter where you reside in the world, to adhere to this clarion call to observe this historic event in a solemn and befitting manner.
“With the threat of imminent wholesale Fulanization on the horizon, we wonder why these shameless and unscrupulous individuals and groups, sponsored by the Nigerian government, are still occupied with such inordinate ambition as to talk about organising a meaningless talking shop on such a revered date.
“We want to assure these hired groups that one thing we know for certain is that shame shall befall them because all genuinely patriotic Biafrans have determined that May 30th is a holy day.”
IPOB said that it is not against any person organising any activity outside May 30 but insisted that May 30 is special day and shall remain so for eternity.
While noting that no lectures, creative discussions or politically motivated and sponsored event on the 30th of May will deter its resolve of ordering a “sit at home”, IPOB noted that Biafrans cannot allow what it described as quislings to make a mockery of its dead heroes on that particular day.
