Spirited efforts by the defeated All Progressives Congress (APC), and its candidate, Senator Chris Ngige, as well as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Comrade Tony Nwoye, to unseat Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State amounted to nothing when the Supreme Court sitting in Abuja this afternoon dismissed their appeals.
Obiano, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), had beaten Nwoye and Ngige to the second and third positions in last November’s Anambra State governorship election but they refused to accept the result.
After losing at the Anambra State Election Tribunal, Nwoye and Ngige headed for the Appeal Court in neighbouring Enugu State, where they also lost before heading for the Supreme Court. Their hopes were however once more dashed when the seven-man panel of judges of the apex court similarly dismissed their appeals for lack of merit.
The Supreme Court had last week Monday also dismissed the appeal brought before it by Dr. Chike Obidigbo, a factional governorship aspirant of APGA, seeking to be declared the party’srightful candidate for the election.
